In a conversation with TV Insider, Paevey said Valentini hinted that writers wanted to expand storylines tied to Nathan, and he quickly embraced the opportunity. Despite stepping away from Hollywood to care for his mother and live a quieter life in San Diego, Paevey said he felt “grateful to still have an opportunity here.”

The actor admitted that stepping back into Port Charles felt both nostalgic and surreal. On his first day back, he reunited with Finola Hughes and Dominic Zamprogna. He joked that it felt like a “mini-PCPD reunion.” He also encountered a striking reminder of his character’s fate — the same coffin from Nathan’s funeral.

When Nathan died, fans witnessed what seemed like a final farewell, complete with an open casket and a spirit-led sendoff. Yet General Hospital thrives on shocking twists. Nathan’s sister, Britt Westbourne, already returned after viewers presumed she was dead, proving that no character stays gone forever. Paevey confirmed he will share scenes with Kelly Thiebaud, who plays Britt, and teased that their storylines “absolutely overlap.” He also revealed he has filmed with Gary James Fuller, who plays Nathan’s son, James.

Paevey won’t appear opposite Kirsten Storms’ Maxie, who is on leave from the show. However, he acknowledged the enduring love for “Naxie.” He called the fan devotion “surreal as hell” and said it validated the work he and Storms put into the pairing.

Paevey hinted that the new arc will be “wildly different” from his original run. “We’re going to stir the pot. I wouldn’t come back for something vanilla. It’s going to be a blast,” he explained.
