While holding Ric hostage in her basement made for a stress-filled few months in Alexis’s life last year on General Hospital, the storyline was so much fun for Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) that she didn’t want it to end. Happily, the show has delivered a huge silver lining by continuing to write scenes for her to share with Rick Hearst (Ric), one of her all-time favorite co-stars.
Just Can’t Get Enough
Grahn and Hearst’s characters have good reason to stay in one another’s orbits. Their careers as attorneys give them multiple overlapping interests — most recently, her client Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) and his client Michael (Rory Gibson) reached a custody arrangement over their two young children — and, of course, they share a daughter, Molly (Kristen Vaganos).
And to hear Grahn tell it, any reason is a good reason for GH to put Alexis and Ric in scenes together. “I just couldn’t love him more,” says Grahn of Hearst, who was her love interest on the show during the heyday of “Rexis” back in the mid-2000s. “He’s my guy, you know? We just get each other — a lot — and he is so good at what he does.”
Grahn notes that her comfort level with Hearst is so great, it allows her to do her very best work. “You know what you want in a partner in real life? That’s what I get with him as an actor,” the Daytime Emmy winner declares. “I get a safe place to land with him all the time. I feel very safe and free and taken care of.”
The actress also finds that she and Hearst take a similar approach to their acting. “I love to add stuff, to come up with something [in the moment], and he does, too,” she observes. “It just makes it really fun. The cool thing about acting is when you are in tune with the people you’re working with and you’re all on the same level. When that happens, it feels like you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, and I have that with Rick. I can’t say enough about him!”
