In the wake of Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) shooting, stories were quickly concocted and tracks were swiftly covered in the September 4 episode of General Hospital. Tracy (Jane Elliot) told Michael (Rory Gibson) she could place him at the scene of the crime, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) created an alibi, Trina (Tabyana Ali) and Kai (Jens Austin Astrup) destroyed evidence, Nina (Cynthia Watros) lied for Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), Curtis (Donnell Turner) updated Jordan (Tanisha Harper), Martin (Michael E. Knight) enlisted Lulu’s (Alexa Havins) aid, and Lucas (Van Hansis) and Portia (Brook Kerr) worked together to save Drew’s life. Here’s everything that went down!
Do Me a Favor
Lulu met with Martin at the Port Charles Grill, and through a forced smile, he whispered that this had to appear to be a normal family get-together, but he was actually going to give her a story that would make her journalistic career. When he added that he had to remain anonymous because he was breaking attorney/client privilege, Lulu informed him that no outlet would run such a big story without attribution. She got up to leave, but Martin stopped her by revealing it was about “Congressman Cutthroat.”
After sitting back down, Lulu was unimpressed when Martin mentioned Drew’s dealings with Sidwell and Tracy over Measure C, but was more interested when he mentioned corruption. She was stunned to learn that Drew had used his power to target Stella to get back at Curtis, but disappointed when Martin couldn’t provide any evidence. He insisted she would turn up proof as soon as she started digging into it, and begged her to take down Drew and Ezra to save Stella. Lulu warned that even if she exposed Drew’s corruption, it wouldn’t save Stella from crimes she actually committed. Martin simply hoped that proving Drew was behind Stella’s arrest would cast enough shade that it could stop the investigation, and she agreed to look into it. Just then, Martin’s phone rang. He was surprised to learn he was still one of Drew’s emergency contacts and even more shocked to learn the congressman had been shot!

Instant Alibi
Ava arrived at Alexis’s and gave Kristina the pills she got from Lucas to help keep Ric docile during his imprisonment. They both jumped at a knock on the door, and Ava hid while Kristina let Dante in, but she emerged when the detective mentioned an attempted murder. When he inquired what Ava was doing there, she and Kristina distracted him by pressing for details of the crime. Dante wanted to speak with Alexis, who walked in at that exact moment. When she wondered why he wanted her to account for her whereabouts earlier, he revealed that Drew had been shot.
Alexis calmly informed Dante she wasn’t answering any questions without her lawyer present, and he eventually relented, saying that someone would call to schedule an interview. After he left, Ava gleefully wanted to celebrate Alexis giving Drew exactly what he deserved, but Alexis insisted she had been downstairs with their “houseguest” all night. A skeptical Ava reminded her she couldn’t use Ric as her alibi, given the situation. “Oh, he’s not my alibi,” Alexis declared. “You two are.” Ava didn’t see how that was going to work, but Alexis argued that Dante would never think that either of them would lie on her behalf.

Breaking News Update
Jordan met Curtis at the Brown Dog, and he thanked her for always showing up for him. She assumed it was about Stella, but he relayed the news that his marriage to Portia was over. He explained that they had finally been truly honest with each other, and it became clear that there was no way forward for them. “Bottom line is, I don’t trust Portia anymore,” he said sadly. “And life is too short to be with someone you can’t trust.”
Curtis added that he’d also come to realize that he and Portia never had as much in common as he did with Jordan. She suggested that perhaps taking some time apart could remind them of the good times, but Curtis shared that Portia never thought their marriage had a shot because the only reason they’d gotten together was because he was on the rebound. Jordan asked if he also believed that, and Curtis wasn’t sure. Just then, she got a text and reported the news that someone had tried to murder Drew.

Up in Flames
Still reeling from the idea that her mother would tamper with someone’s blood test to protect her, Trina wondered if Portia had done something even more extreme tonight. Kai urged her not to think like that, noting how many other enemies Drew had. He then brought up the evidence of Portia’s crime that they’d retrieved from Drew’s safe, and Trina noted that because it could end her mother’s career, give her a motive for shooting Drew and place them at the scene of the crime, it had to be destroyed.
While they were setting fire to the papers in the kitchen, someone knocked on her door, and Kai covered up the smoke and ashes as Trina answered the door to Stella. She apologized for interrupting and said she was worried about Curtis because she couldn’t get in touch with him. Trina said she hadn’t heard from him, and when Stella smelled smoke, made up a lie about accidentally setting a magazine on fire. Just then, Kai got a call from Anna, and he relayed that Drew had been shot and the commissioner wanted to talk to him. Trina stammered that it made sense, as he was the congressman’s intern, and as he exited, she noticed her great aunt seemed upset. Shaking, Stella confided her fear that Curtis had been the one who shot Drew.

Seen at the Scene
At the Quartermaine mansion, Michael and Brook Lynn were surprised when Tracy entered the kitchen in sweats, explaining that the cops had taken her clothes after she’d found Drew after he’d been shot, adding that the doctors were trying to save his life. Processing that news, they wondered why Tracy had been at Drew’s house, and she told them she’d hoped to talk to him about Stella and Scout, but found him lying on the floor, shot in the back. Upset, she declared that, despite everything, Drew is still her brother’s son, and given how upset Monica was when Michael was injured, she didn’t want her finding out about Drew. Brook Lynn agreed to work with Yuri to keep Monica off her devices and in the dark, and after she left, Michael told Tracy how sorry he was that she had to find Drew like that. “Don’t be sorry,” she replied. “Be grateful. Because I won’t tell anyone that you were there, too.”
Tracy revealed that she’d seen his car pull away from up the street, and then she went into Drew’s house to find him bleeding out. He started to explain, but she quickly silenced him, not wanting to hear anything she might have to repeat on the witness stand. Tracy warned that others might have seen him at the scene, so he should get an alibi for his sake, his children’s sake, and Monica’s sake. Michael thanked Tracy for her discretion as he beat a hasty retreat.

One Lie After Another
Nina arrived at the hospital and rushed over to a shaken Willow to ask if there was any news about Drew. Willow reported he was still in surgery and wondered how Nina had heard about the shooting if it wasn’t on the news yet. Nina claimed she’d heard some nurses talking and wanted to check on her. But even seeing how upset her daughter was, Nina was still clearly hesitant to comfort her for fear of aggravating the situation.
Down the hall, Anna talked to Chase about making a list of suspects, starting with Alexis, then adding Carly and Michael. Chase suggested Sonny and Curtis, and when Anna looked over and saw Nina talking with Willow, she wanted to add them, as well. The commissioner questioned whether she could rely on Chase, given that Willow was a suspect, and he promised he could be objective. When he mentioned the couple had recently reconciled, Anna wondered if he was implying Willow was innocent. Upon learning that the reunion was quite recent, Anna wondered if Drew had already ruined it.

When Anna and Chase approached Willow to question her, Nina insisted on remaining by her side. Asked about her movements earlier in the evening, Willow claimed that she had gone for a walk after hearing the upsetting news about Judge Heran’s demise. Anna questioned if she’d been alone, but Nina jumped in to declare that she had gone with her daughter. The commissioner was skeptical that they went for a stroll together, given their estrangement, but Nina insisted that she’d seen her daughter in pain and stepped up for her. Chase wondered why Nina hadn’t returned to the hospital with Willow, and she lied that she’d dropped her off before going home to change because they’d gotten wet in the rain. When she returned, that’s when Willow told her what happened to Drew.
After the cops left, Willow blasted Nina for lying to the police, and she countered that she was just trying to give her an alibi. “No, you didn’t,” Willow spat back. “You gave yourself one.” Nina argued that Willow was the prime suspect here, but she shot back that if anyone wanted Drew dead, it was Nina. Meanwhile, Anna told Chase that while Willow and Nina were both clearly lying, she wanted to concentrate their attention on Michael.
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
Brook Lynn reported to Tracy that Monica hadn’t heard anything about Drew, and Tracy hoped they’d have better news to report soon. She then opened up about how awful it was to find Drew in that condition, even though Tracy was furious that he’d pushed someone so far that they wanted him dead. Chase arrived and reported that Drew was still in surgery when he left the hospital and that he needed their help to figure out what happened. He got a little sharp with Brook Lynn when she hedged after he asked about Michael’s whereabouts.

Meanwhile, Michael went to the Grill to ask the bartender if he remembered seeing him talking with a blonde woman earlier at the bar. The employee did, but couldn’t help identify or locate her. Seeing how stressed he was, Lulu left her table with Martin and started asking him about Drew’s shooting. But when she questioned if he’d been with Tracy all night, Michael shut her down with a curt “no comment.”
A Delicate Operation
Lucas thanked Portia for scrubbing in to assist with Drew’s surgery and took the lead in the OR. The first bullet came out easily, and Portia closed up the incision as Lucas went after the second, which was lodged dangerously close to the spine. Noting some bleeding, Lucas asked Portia to take care of it as soon as he removed the bullet. “If we don’t time this perfectly,” he warned, “we could kill him.” She flashed back to one of the numerous times Drew had threatened her, then leapt into action as Lucas removed the bullet and Drew began hemorrhaging. Though she did begin spacing out again as Lucas frantically tried to stop the bleeding.

Kai arrived at the hospital, where Anna questioned him about Drew’s schedule before revealing that they suspected whoever shot Drew had a key to his home. Kai admitted that he had one, as did Scout, the nanny, the cleaning lady, Willow, and possibly Alexis Davis. Lucas and Portia finally emerged from surgery and reported to Anna, Kai, Willow, and Nina that while it was touch-and-go, they’d been able to save Drew, and he should be stable soon. Willow quickly expressed her overenthusiastic gratitude to a wary Portia.
Later, Anna called Chase with an update, and we saw flashes of all the suspects as she spoke. “Between the congressman’s abuse of his political power and his salacious personal entanglements, there are multiple suspects with ample motive. He’s wronged a lot of people. We don’t know if the crime was born of revenge or righteous indignation. If it was someone driven to protect… or someone driven by passion. What we do know is that these suspects are deeply entrenched in Port Charles. Well connected and perhaps, most importantly, dangerously close to the victim. Which means we have to remain vigilant. Because whoever did this… is walking amongst us. And we can’t rest until we find out who pulled the trigger.”
