As the manhunt for Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) continued on the December 9 episode of General Hospital, the fugitive got Carly (Laura Wright) to leave a message for Charlotte (Bluesy Burke), while Lulu (Alexa Havins) was furious when Jack (Chris McKenna) threatened her daughter. Elsewhere in town, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) got new orders from Marco (Adrian Anchondo), Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Laura (Genie Francis) came up with a plan to turn the tables on their blackmailer, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) again butted heads with Drew (Cameron Mathison) over her strategy for Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) trial, and Anna (Finola Hughes) raged against her mysterious captors. Keep on reading for all the details.
Practice Makes Perfect
While waiting for Drew to arrive at her house for a meeting, Alexis handed over files to Marco for another case so she could focus on Willow’s upcoming trial. Then, Suzanne arrived and asked to sit in on the trial prep, offering to be a buffer between Alexis and Drew. Once Drew and Willow arrived at the house, the congressman flipped out at the sight of Suzanne and Marco. He hadn’t wanted to meet at Miller & Davis out of fear that Diane might overhear their conversation and feed information to her clients, Michael and Sonny. When Drew insisted that Marco leave, Marco reminded Cain that his father was also a Miller & Davis client, and he didn’t think his father would appreciate his interests being ignored — but then left for another meeting anyway. Drew wanted Suzanne to leave as well, but Alexis’s assistant offered to be the jury while Willow rehearsed her testimony, which Willow thought was a good idea.

As they began their practice round, Alexis played the part of Acting District Attorney Turner, questioning Drew about the night he was shot. Annoyed, Drew didn’t think it was necessary, since he hated reliving that evening, but Alexis insisted it was. With a resigned sigh, Drew walked through that night, flashing back to taking Willow’s ring out of the safe, placing it on the mantel, and being shot twice. Then, when Alexis asked him if he recalled anything else, Drew said he felt like there was something else… but ultimately couldn’t remember what it was. Alexis suggested he work on finding that memory since it could identify the shooter, and Drew snarled that they knew Michael had shot him, and that was exactly what he was going to tell the jury. Once again, Alexis warned him that it wasn’t a good idea since there was no evidence. Drew argued that even if Justine objected to his saying Michael’s name, the damage would be done in the eyes of the jury.
Tossing her legal pad onto the table, Alexis cautioned Drew not to pull any tricks like that on the stand, because her case was stronger if she got the police to admit they rushed to judgment and focused on the wrong suspect. Willow begged Drew to let Alexis do her job, and Drew relented, agreeing not to name Michael. Next, Alexis wanted to go over the list of her other potential witnesses, upsetting Willow with the news that she wasn’t going to be testifying.

The Hangover
Britt woke up with a hangover to find Jason in her room and few memories of the night before. She remembered hanging out with Cody until Jason showed up, then asked Jason to fill in the blanks. He explained that he brought her back to her room, and Britt was horrified to learn that he’d given her her medication because she was too drunk to do the injection herself. Immediately, Britt put her walls up, sniping that she assumed Jason wanted an explanation about her medication. Jason admitted that he did have questions, but would wait for Britt to tell him on her own time. Then, Jason intuited that Britt had been drinking because something spooked her, and shared that he hoped she would someday realize he was on her side and confide in him what was troubling her. With her back to Jason, Britt fought back tears, but once she turned around, she brushed him off with a laugh, claiming she had no recollection of what had been bothering her the night before. After asking him to leave, Britt thanked Jason for taking care of her. Once she was alone in her room, she whispered to herself, “And not mentioning that I dared you to kiss me.”

Later, as she held her medication box in her hands, Britt flashed back to the events of the previous evening and muttered that next time, she’d drink enough to really black out. Marco then showed up at her room to deliver a key fob to a new lab that his father had set up so she could continue their research. Taken aback by the news that Marco was monitoring her actions, Britt warned him not to push her since they needed her on the project. Marco replied that he was aware of the “certain value” she brought to the research, but no one was irreplaceable, and warned her that his father’s patience was wearing thin.
True Blue
Freezing after spending the night in Carly’s shed, Valentin went into the house to warm up after Josslyn left, and Carly shared that she was looking for another place for him to hide out since he couldn’t be in the house once Donna came home from Sonny’s. He asked Carly to get a message to Anna, and she explained that Anna was out of town on a WSB assignment. Producing a key, he asked Carly for a blue ribbon. As he tied a bow on the key, Valentin explained the color was a secret message for Charlotte that he was safe, but to stay put, and asked Carly to leave the key somewhere at Lulu’s house for Charlotte to find. Worried that Charlotte would try to come see him at her house, Carly didn’t think it was a good idea, but Valentin asserted that Charlotte was expecting him to reach out to her.

Message Received
Lulu revealed to Nathan, who had stood guard at her house overnight, that she’d hardly slept. When Dante showed up, Lulu wondered if there was a lead on Valentin’s whereabouts — and Charlotte chimed in and said the police wouldn’t find her dad unless he wanted them to. Dante wanted to know if Valentin had reached out to her, and Charlotte shot back that since Nathan had taken her phone and she was being kept home from school, there was no way for her father to contact her. Complaining that she felt like she was in prison, Charlotte went outside for fresh air. When Nathan went out to check on her, Charlotte noted that her dad knew how to stay off the radar and avoid getting caught, and Nathan mused that Valentin loved her too much to contact her.
Meanwhile, Lulu lamented to Dante that, between being scared for Charlotte and Rocco’s upcoming trial, she didn’t know how much more she could take. Dante shared that in addition to searching for Valentin, the PCPD was looking for Dalton… and he had to entertain the thought that Sonny may have killed the professor to protect Rocco. Under the guise of checking in on Charlotte, Carly stopped by Lulu’s house to deposit the key from Valentin. When Charlotte moaned that she felt like she was under house arrest, Dante promised that things would ease up once they found Valentin. After Dante and Nathan headed back to the station and Charlotte went upstairs, Lulu vented to Carly that she feared Valentin was going to come for Charlotte. Brennan showed up next, and Carly left after Jack said he needed to speak with Lulu privately. Before heading home, Carly placed the key under the front porch for Charlotte to find.

Lulu shot Jack down when he requested to speak with Charlotte, gloating that Valentin had played the WSB agent as part of his plan to escape from Steinmauer. Charlotte came downstairs as her mom and Jack were arguing and agreed to speak with Brennan. Jack wanted to know if she had a way to contact her father, and Charlotte grumbled that the cops had taken her phone. Jack commented that there had to be another method of communication between them since Valentin would never trust phones, and when Charlotte remained silent, he groused that he couldn’t guarantee her father’s safety if the teen didn’t work with him. Annoyed with Brennan, Lulu asked Charlotte to leave them to speak alone, and the teen went to sit on the porch. Lulu ripped into Jack for threatening her daughter to get her to cooperate with him, refusing to let Charlotte think Brennan’s screw-up was her fault. Jack replied that he wanted Valentin brought in alive, and the longer the manhunt dragged on, the better the chances were that Charlotte would be used as bait.
Outside, a frustrated Charlotte plopped down in one of the porch chairs. Then, her eye caught the key with the blue ribbon, and she recognized it as a message from her father.

Outwit And Outlast
At the PCPD, Justine asked Mac if he believed Sonny could have killed Professor Dalton to protect Rocco. Confident that Sonny absolutely could have done so, Mac asked her if she believed Dalton was dead. Justine explained her theory that Dalton lied about Rocco destroying the lab, and his subsequent appearance had made her wonder if Sonny was responsible. Mac agreed it was possible, informing her that despite his charm and philanthropy, Corinthos was a criminal and a killer, especially when it came to protecting his family.
Later, Justine and Molly were in the interrogation room going over the case, and Molly noted that she wasn’t sure how the DA’s office should proceed since their main witness was missing. She asked Justine to consider going back to the original plea deal, and Turner revealed that she had no desire to prosecute Rocco for a crime he didn’t commit, but refused to let Sonny get away with murdering Henry Dalton. Unable to defend her uncle, Molly confided that she hoped he hadn’t killed the professor, but there was no way to know for sure. Molly then revealed that she was surprised Justine was suspicious of Sonny, considering that the two had been getting along better lately. Justine replied that it was all an act; she was just pretending to fall for Sonny’s charm so it would be more satisfying when she sent him to prison. Molly was relieved that her boss saw Sonny for who he really is, but warned her that others before her thought they could bring him down and failed. With a smile, Justine declared that it was because they went at him directly, but she was pretending to be on Sonny’s side — until she was not.

Turning The Tables
At Sonny’s house, Laura apologized for dragging him into the mess with Sidwell. She explained how Sidwell had set the whole thing up with Dalton in her car, and how Sonny’s involvement was a bonus. Sonny wondered if Sidwell knew that Jason had been at the site as well, then told a shocked Laura that the other man had the gun with her DNA all over the weapon. As they compared notes, Laura revealed that Sidwell wanted her, as mayor, to follow his orders, and Sonny replied that for starters, he had to sell his piers to Sidwell. Divulging that he had some ideas on how to get them out from under Sidwell’s control, Sonny asked Laura to hang in there until he figured things out.
Laura fretted that Sidwell would want her to enact his policies, and worried how his demands might impact the PCPD with Dante now the acting police commissioner. Sonny reminded Laura how, once upon a time, the two of them and Luke had teamed up to take down Frank Smith — and they’d do that again now with Sidwell. With tears in her eyes, Laura reached across from where she sat on the couch to grasp Sonny’s hand from his perch on the coffee table and nodded.

Later, Jason joined Sonny and Laura and agreed that they had to play ball with Sidwell. He vowed to stay as clean as he could while handling those demands on Sonny’s behalf. Jason figured that the more Sidwell relied on them, the more he’d expose of his organization to them. Sonny suspected that the demands Sidwell made of Laura as mayor would give them clues to his real intentions for being in Port Charles. Pointing out that Sidwell was arrogant enough to believe Laura was completely under his control, Sonny suggested that Laura use that to her advantage to get him to let his guard down. With a renewed sense of determination, Laura vowed to get the information from Sidwell so they could bring him down together.
Point Of Contact
Out in the squad room, Emma arrived to tell her great uncle Mac that she’d gotten a voicemail from Anna, who’d said that she probably wouldn’t be able to call again but would return to Port Charles as soon as she could. Then, when their conversation turned to Maxie, Mac wondered if he should stop splitting his time between Boston and Port Charles, and questioned if Georgie and James had mentioned anything to Emma about him not being around as much. Emma reassured Mac, telling him not to second-guess what he felt was best for his family, and claimed that would be her grandmother’s advice to him if Anna were there.

Across the room, Nathan and Dante discussed Valentin. Nathan thought that Valentin would keep his distance from Charlotte — that’s what he would do if it were James, he noted — but Dante pointed out that Valentin was a selfish man who wanted his daughter with him. Nathan mused that it would be much easier to find Valentin if Anna were there, and Dante wondered if Anna was the one who helped him escape.
Captive Audience
Carly returned home from Lulu’s house and told Valentin that she’d hidden the key for Charlotte to find. She also agreed to let him hide out in her attic and asked how long he was going to be skulking around her house. “Until Anna gets back,” Valentin replied. Meanwhile, in an unknown location, Anna was meditating in the dingy room where she was being held captive. Standing up, she approached the mirrored glass window and angrily yelled out, “What do you want from me?!?”
