General Hospital Head Writers on How Show Will Pay Tribute to Late Leslie Charleson & Tristan Rogers

General Hospital co-head writers Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten confirmed upcoming tribute episodes honoring Leslie Charleson and Tristan Rogers. The longtime stars, remembered for their iconic roles as Monica Quartermaine and Robert Scorpio, passed away earlier this year.

Speaking to TV Insider, Korte and Van Etten said, “Leslie Charleson was adored by the cast, crew, and audience.” They added, “When bidding farewell to her and to Monica, there could be no half-measures. Honoring Leslie’s contribution to General Hospital and Monica’s significance to Port Charles meant doing more than simply throwing a funeral and looking back at the past.” The writers confirmed Monica’s passing will lead to new storylines, connections, and character growth.

The head writers explained their approach: “We wanted Monica’s passing to kick off a new story; to create new connections on the canvas; to test her loved ones; and to grow their relationships. This way, Monica may be gone — but her legacy will be felt long into the future.”

They also addressed the loss of Tristan Rogers, saying, “We’re heartbroken by Tristan’s passing. He created the consummate General Hospital hero; Robert Scorpio was swashbuckling and sensitive, smoldering and vulnerable.” Before his death, Rogers had recently completed scenes that expanded his character’s family.

Korte and Van Etten confirmed a future Robert Scorpio tribute episode. “We’re fortunate that he was able to make one last return, and that his scenes centered on expanding his Scorpio family,” they said. “He is sorely missed, and we aim to pay tribute to Tristan and Robert the same way that we did for Leslie and Monica.”

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
