General Hospital Exclusive: Laura Wright Reveals The Real Reason Carly is Jealous of Britt

On General Hospital, Carly has long had a hard time keeping her envy in check when her BFF and former lover, Jason (Steve Burton), had his attention diverted by another woman. Currently, he’s quite focused on Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) — and Carly’s portrayer, Laura Wright, doesn’t buy her character’s claim that she’s not jealous of that.

While Carly and Britt don’t have much use for each other, Wright says that she has a blast whenever she gets to share scenes with Kelly Thiebaud. “She’s pretty fun!” Wright beams. “We love to rehearse and make it funny and just support each other. It’s always a good time!”

The scratchy dynamic between the two women has been on full display since Jason arranged for back-from-the-dead Britt to move into his room above Bobbie’s — the establishment that Carly just so happens to own — last fall. Carly discovered that Britt was her new tenant when the towel-clad doctor burst into the diner after discovering that she’d been locked out of her room post-shower. “I thought she was hilarious in those scenes,” says Wright. “Kelly is really the one who sold it, because she had to keep a straight face while Carly was like, ‘Are you kidding me right now?'”
Carly, of course, has sworn up and down that she’s not jealous. Scoffs Wright with a laugh, “Come on — of course she is! 100 percent she is!” What galls Carly, the actress muses, “is not so much that Jason would go to the ends of the earth for the character of Britt, to help her and save her. She gets that; that’s Jason. But it’s just that thing of, ‘If he’s that invested in someone else, will he still be there for her?'”

Wright notes that Jason not looping Carly in about Britt’s return to the land of the living from the start only exacerbated her insecurity — while he was the one to break the news to her, she wasn’t the first. “Carly was the only one who didn’t know,” she points out. “Sonny knew, even Brick knew! Immediately, she was left on the outside. It’s like, ‘Our whole little posse knew and you didn’t tell me?!’ [In Carly’s mind], Jason changes toward her [when Britt is in the picture]. There’s just something about her, and Carly doesn’t like it! It scares her.

“I’m not saying it’s right,” Wright continues. “But the situation is what it is. She doesn’t like it at all, and she would have no problem if Britt decided to leave town and go live somewhere else! She would be like, ‘I totally understand — how far can I help you pack [laughs]?'”

The actress sums up, “Carly can see how much he cares about her, and she doesn’t like it. It scares her. She doesn’t even have a great reason, it’s just a Carly thing. It’s just who she is. She’s terrified that someone’s going to take Jason from her, and that’s just the way it is and the way it’s always been!”
