Fans took to social media yesterday to praise the “incredible” Switch 2, with many queueing up overnight or attending midnight openings to get the bigger, more powerful Nintendo console as soon as possible.

However a handful of fans reported that their console had been destroyed by shop employees.

“GameStop stapled the receipt onto the box for me,” one fan wrote alongside an image of their Switch 2 with two holes in it.  “Genuinely insane. And yes we were there for the midnight release so I bet everyone in this line is gonna have this same issue.”

“Midnight release went bad for me,” another fan wrote on Reddit after experiencing the same problem. “This happened to me and another buddy! Think the entire pre order batch is completely fucked,” replied another fan. “Could you imagine fucking up hundreds of consoles because you couldn’t use tape,” wrote a third.

News of the ruined Switch 2 consoles quickly went viral across social media. In an apologetic post on X, Gamestop wrote: “We’ve addressed a unique case of staples damaging Switch 2 screens—isolated to one store. Replacements have been offered. Staplers have been confiscated.”

“For all those wondering, this Gamestop branch actually came in clutch and the branch sourced around NY and NJ to provide replacements to everyone who this happened to. Not an ideal saga but happy they made things right,” added a fan.

Musician Ethel Cain was one of the many people trying to pick up Nintendo’s newest console yesterday. “Trying to find a fucking Switch 2 today. Is this how y’all feel when my tickets go on sale,” she wrote on social media before sharing a photo with her brand new console. Meanwhile Porter Robinson was spotted at a midnight launch.

In other news, it’s been confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong is finally heading to Xbox exactly one year after it launched for PlayStation and PC.
