G7 May Confront North Korea’s Crypto Heists at Upcoming Summit

Officials reportedly described North Korea’s cyber operations as “alarming”, particularly for their role in financing the country’s weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.

A White House spokesperson has previously confirmed that crypto heists have become a core revenue stream for the regime.

While the final agenda for the June summit remains in flux, sources say discussions around Russia’s war in Ukraine and other global security concerns could take precedence.

Still, there is growing pressure among G7 leaders to address the surge in crypto-related crimes tied to North Korea’s state-sponsored hacking groups, including the notorious Lazarus Group.

North Korea has been implicated in multiple major digital asset breaches, exploiting decentralized finance platforms and centralized exchanges to steal and launder billions in crypto.
