Hockey: A sport where brawls are considered brainy. Don’t you agree? Ironically, on the ice is where sparks fly, tempers flare, and gloves come off at the drop of a hat. If you’re a hockey fanatic, you’d definitely recall the drama that unravelled between Team USA and Canada at the 4 Nations Face Off. Just 9 seconds after the puck dropped, three individual fights broke out. Matthew Tkachuk and Bradon Hagel needed no cue to fling off their gloves, sticks, and have their fists brandished on each other’s faces.
Little did we know that history would repeat itself, but then again, it’s hockey. The motto is to expect the unexpected. The race to the Stanley Cup is comin’ in hot, especially in the Battle of Florida. And believe us, it’s aptly monikered as a battle. The Florida Panthers‘ arch nemesis, the Tampa Bay Lightning, didn’t take the back-to-back losses handed to them well. Sore from losing, the Lightning’s frustration seeped through the cracks when Brandon Hagel went for a head-on collision in full momentum with the Panthers’ captain, Aleksander Barkov. Barkov least expected to be cross-checked by Hagel in the puck chase and met the ice helmet first. Barkov exited the ice with an injury that looked serious.
Serious enough to put Cats fans and the team in distress. Naturally, the Panthers looked to the officiators for some reprieve and sought justice for the foul meted out to their captain. Adam of AGBRSports, completely appalled by Hagel, made his thoughts known on X, “I hope Matthew Tkachuk is letting Brandon Hagel know how much of a dirtbag hit that was. Totally uncalled for. Unnecessary. I hope Hagel is suspended for the rest of the series. DIRT.” In all honesty, it won’t be Tkachuk’s first rodeo going against Hagel into a full-blown brawl.
