Book fans, it’s time for another round of the hottest book news of the week. For all of the terrors of the world, at least we can rely on the fact that books can always bring us joy. Here’s what we’ve got to be excited about right now.

Forever, the Netflix series adaptation of the Judy Blume novel of the same name, has been renewed for a second season! The series stars Michael Cooper Jr. and Lovie Simone as Justin Edwards and Keisha Clarke, two teenagers learning about themselves and exploring first love together. In a statement about the series renewal, creator Mara Brock Akil said,
“This show was never just about first love — it was about being seen. About letting teenagers be soft, complicated, and real… And the world showed up for that. Season 2 is our love letter back to the people who said, ‘Yes, this is for me.’ We’re honored, we’re excited, and we’re ready to go even deeper. Thank you to Netflix — Season 2 coming soon!”
Cormac McCarthy’s novel Outer Dark is getting a film adaptation. The project will be directed by Oscar-winning Hungarian filmmaker László Nemes (Son of Saul). The director said in a statement, “Since reading Outer Dark the first time, it has been my dream to make it into a film, and to find the appropriate cinematic language that would do justice to Cormac McCarthy’s evocative and cosmological work.” The film will star Jacob Elordi (Priscilla) and Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu). Outer Dark is set to go into production in 2026. (It’s worth noting that Cormac McCarthy’s legacy is much more complicated now, after Augusta Britt spoke out about their relationship.)
Brie Larson is publishing a party-themed cookbook with best friend and chef Courtney McBroom. The book will include over 100 recipes and party theme ideas to throw a wonderful soiree, no matter your cooking level or budget. Larson calls the book a “mixture of Martha Stewart and Garfield.” The book will be out in fall 2025.
Here’s the cover of Once Upon a Time in Dollywood, the debut novel from Reese’s Book Club LitUp fellow Ashley Jordan. Once Upon a Time in Dollywood follows playwright Eve Ambroise, who is looking for a fresh start away from her ex-husband and family. So, she escapes to the Tennessee mountains, where she meets single dad Jamie Gallagher. Soon, the two are much more than just friends… but could this be something even more serious? You’ll get to find out this summer. The book hits shelves on August 5.
