Many of the greatest bands of all time have lost original members or undergone breakups that have subsequently resulted in the formation of a spin-off band, sometimes just as successful as the original. Perhaps the most obvious example is New Order, who formed from Joy Division after the death of lead singer, Ian Curtis.
