FKA twigs has officially moved to dismiss her latest legal action against actor Shia LaBeouf after he agreed to void a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that had previously silenced her regarding their past relationship. The singer, born Tahliah Barnett, filed the request for dismissal on October 6, 2026, effectively ending a secondary legal conflict over her right to speak about alleged abuse.

The resolution centers on LaBeouf’s formal agreement that the non-disclosure provisions included in their June 2025 settlement are now “terminated and void.” That original settlement was intended to resolve Barnett’s 2020 lawsuit, which accused the actor of sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress. However, the peace was short-lived following disputes over the restrictive nature of the agreement.

The Role of the STAND Act

The latest round of litigation began in March 2026, when Barnett filed a second lawsuit arguing that the non-disclosure terms violated California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act (STAND Act). This legislation prohibits the use of NDAs in settlements involving claims of sexual misconduct, including sexual battery and assault, to prevent survivors from being permanently silenced.

The push to invalidate the NDA was triggered by actions taken by LaBeouf’s legal team in late 2025. In December of that year, the actor initiated an arbitration claim against Barnett. He alleged she had breached the June 2025 settlement terms after she spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, stating during the interview that she did not “feel safe.”

Barnett’s subsequent lawsuit sought to strike down the NDA as unlawful under California law. With LaBeouf now yielding on the validity of the non-disclosure provisions, his legal team has also dismissed the arbitration claim against her.

Freedom to Speak

The conclusion of these filings marks the end of nearly six years of legal conflict between the former couple. While the 2020 abuse charges were settled with prejudice in mid-2025, the voiding of the NDA represents a significant shift in Barnett’s ability to discuss the case publicly.

According to Barnett’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, the dismissal of the second lawsuit is a victory for his client’s agency. Rosengart stated that the resolution frees Barnett to discuss her experiences, support charitable causes, and advocate for other women without the threat of legal reprisal. The attorney emphasized that the focus of this specific legal battle was justice and the protection of speech rights rather than further financial gain.

By securing the termination of the NDA, Barnett is no longer legally barred from detailing the events that led to her original 2020 filing. The case has been closely watched in the entertainment industry as a test of the STAND Act’s effectiveness in protecting survivors who enter into settlements with high-profile individuals.
