Yesterday was, by all accounts, a well-won victory for Jimmy Kimmel. After a week of suspension due to pressure from the FCC, Jimmy Kimmel Live! made its grand return to the airwaves. A quarter of the country probably didn't see it, due to the influence of one company: the Nexstar Media Group. Nexstar said that it would continue to preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live!with its own programming, effecively making sure that Kimmel is kept off the air despite ABC's decision to end his suspension. Nexstar owns over 200 broadcasting affiliates in major cities, even purchasing a major network with the CW, meaning that the company's influence is far larger that one would think — and worrying, considering the lengths it's going to with its preemption of Kimmel's show. It's not the first major change Nexstar has made regarding its programming choices.
