In a series that has been ongoing for as long and as successfully as Final Fantasy has, it really is quite the claim to say one individual game is the best in the series. That said, Final Fantasy IX has every right to do so, and there's no doubt that it does remain one of the absolute peaks, even if you don't consider it the very top of the tree.
