For the franchise’s first film since 2011, Final Destination Bloodlines decided to go bigger and deadlier, which meant incorporating a fiery stunt that broke a world record.

What world record did Final Destination Bloodlines break?

The Final Destination movies kick off with disturbing premonitions to set the stage for the grotesque kills to follow. Final Destination Bloodlines travels back to the 1960s for the opening premonition set atop a fictional 400-foot-tall tower, Skyview Toronto. At the top of the tower is a restaurant with glass floors and windows.

The scene introduces Iris Campbell (Brec Bassinger), who experiences imminent disaster when she envisions the restaurant going up in flames. One of the people set on fire is Mrs. Fuller, played by Yvette Ferguson, a 71-year-old stuntwoman who came out of retirement to complete the dangerous stunt. Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein claim Ferguson set a world record by completing this sequence.

“We lit so many different people on fire, including breaking the world record for oldest person on fire with Yvette Ferguson, who did that full body burn in the silver dress,” Lipovsky told Entertainment Weekly. “That was the oldest person ever on fire, on camera.”

The Bloodlines’ stunt team contacted the Guinness World Records to submit Ferguson’s accomplishment for consideration. The team is still waiting to hear back.

As the sixth film in the franchise, Final Destination Bloodlines stars Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Rya Kihlstedt, Bassinger, and the late Tony Todd.

The official synopsis reads, “Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.”

Lipovsky and Stein directed Bloodlines from a screenplay by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor. Busick and Taylor developed the story with Jon Watts.

Final Destination Bloodlines opens in theaters on May 16.
