If you’ve watched any Hollywood award show in the past 10 years, you’ve probably heard the name Ted Sarandos be thanked in an acceptance speech, something that the eighth episode of Seth Rogen's The Studio playfully mocked. The inventive co-CEO of Netflix is not just one of the most powerful forces in the industry, but the man who is largely credited with spearheading his company’s initial shift to original programming. Due to things like his strong relationships with stars, the awards show shoutouts, and Netflix’s decision to purchase and renovate historic movie theaters, such as New York’s Paris Theater and L.A.’s Grauman’s Egyptian, Sarandos has largely been seen as a lover of film by the public. That all changed in April, though, when he finally revealed his true feelings about the theatrical experience and the future of the business that he’s already changed so drastically.
