FFVII Revelation Director Confirms Gigas Return

Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed we’ll see the enemy Gigas appear again in FFVII Revelation. In doing so, he also shared images of both the original monster from the PS1 and the new version from the upcoming game on social media so people can compare the two.

Hamaguchi referred to the return as “a homage to a random encounter enemy.” The monster could be found toward the very end of the game at the North Crater, but was incredibly rare. However, it is the way to get the Earth Mallet rare drop and one of the ways to get a Gigas Armlet. 

Here are the classic and new images of Gigas from Final Fantasy VII and FFVII Revelation. It remains purple in both games, with as ingle ponytail on the top of the opponent’s head. However, the character’s outfit is different in the remake. 

Now that we’ve seen people get hands-on demo experience with FFVII Revelation and it appeared at the 2026 Tokyo Game Show, Naoki Hamaguchi’s regularly shared insights into the game and its development online. He mentioned Square Enix is looking to bring the trial to more events, for example. He also discussed reasons why the game will end up being about 200GB when it releases.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will come to the Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on April 8, 2027.
