The Cannes Film Festival has introduced an updated red carpet dress code. Many believe Bianca Censori’s Grammys dress might be the reason behind the sudden change. Known for her daring fashion choices, Censori sparked headlines at the 2025 Grammy Awards when she arrived in a sheer mini dress alongside husband Kanye West. Her bold look drew immediate attention, with many criticizing the fashion choice. 

Now, just ahead of the Cannes 2025 opening, organizers issued updated red carpet rules that explicitly ban nudity and “voluminous outfits.” The festival’s new charter states, “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater are not permitted.” Cannes organizers have also made it clear that anyone who violates the dress code will be denied entry on the red carpet.

Previously, stars like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Elle Fanning have also turned heads at Cannes in sheer gowns. Meanwhile, a topless protester in 2022 supporting Ukraine was removed. As of now, Cannes officials have not named any specific incident or celebrity that caused the change. However, given the timings, fans are convinced Bianca Censori’s Grammy look was a contributing reason. 

A spokesperson for Cannes confirmed that some of the rules existed previously. However, the new guidelines were added recently in order “to prohibit full nudity on the carpet.” They also emphasized that the intention behind the updated charter is not to police fashion or creativity.
