Television productions have gotten bigger, bolder, and much more expensive in the streaming age. Yet, while standouts like Netflix'sStranger Things and Paramount+'s Halo were particularly pricey undertakings, Prime Video has been especially willing to throw around its cash. The Amazon-owned streamer has notoriously poured over $1 billion and counting into its fantasy epic, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, starting with over $700 million just to purchase the rights to J.R.R. Tolkien's books and produce the first season alone. Citadel, its Anthony and Joe Russo-produced interconnected spy thriller series, meanwhile, was made for $300 million to capture its cinematic vision.
