On Thursday, former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron expressed concerns that U.S. President Donald Trump’s strategy for achieving peace in Ukraine might set a troubling precedent.

“I hope that Donald Trump’s usage of quite bold language and unconventional methods aims to unlock discussions, creating a scenario where both Ukraine and Russia are willing to negotiate peace,” Cameron stated during an interview on CNBC’s CONVERGE LIVE in Singapore.

However, he noted, “My concern is that it might lead to the broader implication that Trump’s worldview prioritizes the sovereignty of major regional powers, suggesting that we should not intervene in their ambitions.”

Cameron highlighted that such a perspective could be “very concerning” for the Baltic nations—Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania—which share borders with Russia.

“I believe it would also be deeply troubling for Ukraine. These are independent, sovereign nations, and we must uphold the principle that no independent sovereign nation should face invasion,” he emphasized.

Cameron served as the U.K. Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016 and fulfilled the role of foreign minister in former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s administration from 2023 to 2024.
