What's left to say about The Godfather? At this point, not much new. Most of the film has been talked and written about to death, from the opening closeup of Bonasera's shadowy visage to the final closing of Michael's office door. People have written about the entire trilogy extensively: The Godfather's best quotes, the best scenes, the best performances, and so on. The use of such dark lighting was revolutionary; Marlon Brando's performance won him an Academy Award that led to one of the ceremony's biggest controversies; and Al Pacino became so famous for his role as Michael that he went out of his way to avoid similar characters in the future.
