Deion Sanders has probably seen it all—from remarkable highs to devastating lows. Coach Prime has persevered through every challenge. While he enjoyed a successful NFL career, winning two Super Bowls, coaching in college football was always going to present a new challenge. Even before he took the helm at Jackson State and later at Colorado, speculation about his moves began to surface. Fast forward to the 2025 offseason: who was proven right and who was proven wrong?
In his three years at Jackson State, the head coach led the program to a 27-6 overall record that also included two SWAC championships. Still, people questioned the man about coaching at a ‘power’ conference. So, Coach Prime came to Colorado and started renovating the foundations. Sure, success didn’t come easily, as the team finished 4-8 in 2023. But considering the program had finished 1-11 in 2022, the feat was going to be herculean.
Thus started the rebuild that would bring in a whopping 50 transfers, produce a Heisman winner, and a QB who had more than 4,000 yards. All this while revitalizing the program through his cultural revolution. The 9-4 finish was just the tip of the iceberg in 2024 as the program drew massive audiences game after game. For context, the Oregon game drew almost 10 million viewers. In a sense, Coach Prime’s life is nothing short of a thriller movie.
Well, as per recent reports by On3, we may not be getting a ‘thriller’ movie on Coach Prime. But yes, the Colorado head coach is getting a 2-episode Netflix documentary titled ‘Prime Time’ in 2026. Coach Prime even hinted at the documentary earlier. “Guess what, I heard a rumor,” Sanders said in a video. “I ain’t one for rumors, but I heard a rumor. Prime Time is going prime time on Netflix in 2026. Oh! Now give me my theme music.” The impact that Deion Sanders has on the Buffs surely deserves a documentary.

The economic impact of Deion Sanders was also going to be massive. The program generated $113 million in economic impact for just the 2023 home games, and that increased by 20% next year in 2024. Now, despite the excitement in several circles, many users aren’t quite happy with the documentary and lean towards the documentary being overhyped. Reacting to the X post of On3, several users expressed their views.
Fans give their say on Coach Prime’s documentary
Despite the season that Coach Prime had in 2024, his overall record at Colorado stands at 13-12. The 2023 season also had its lows, as the team started in high spirits with 3 wins consecutively but later got steamrolled against Oregon (42-6) and UCLA (28-16). Even the defense at Colorado stood at the 124th position, almost at the bottom of the 132 FBS teams. So, skepticism with just two seasons at the helm becomes natural.
One user was typically skeptical of the move to make the documentary and pointed out. “He literally has a 13-12 record at D1 level. ” While another urged showing a different story, but with the same context, and said, “It should be a riveting story about being 13-12 as an HC.”. Surely, Deion Sanders went 4-8 in the Pac-12 in his first season. But then he also bounced back and produced his first winning season since 2016 for the Buffs. This feat in itself is incredible, and we could see an even better 2025 season, right?
Well, a user doesn’t seem quite optimistic about the 2025 season, as he wrote about the documentary. “Just in time to cover Colorado’s upcoming 4-win season.” While another proclaimed a downfall for Coach Prime. “Wonder if it will cover his downfall this upcoming season?” Well, the point may be right to some extent since Shedeur is off to the NFL, and Travis Hunter, the team’s soul, is gone too. Moreover, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Lajohntay Wester, who were the second- and third-best receivers on the team, have also gone. Still, a 4-win season? Well, that doesn’t sound right.
Lastly, one user pointed out something that may genuinely be something that many people would agree with. The user said, “I already know everything about him and more (too much).” The reasoning is apt since Coach Prime doesn’t follow the limelight; the limelight follows him. We saw that in the pre-draft process when Shedeur Sanders was getting the hype. Later, we saw that in the post-draft process, the QB was snubbed by the teams.
