Stan Lee spent decades helping define what made Marvel Comics distinctive, from flawed heroes and larger-than-life personalities to characters whose personalities were often as important as their powers. Yet despite being one of Marvel's most recognizable creative forces, Lee had no problem admitting when a character from the competition caught his attention.
