Emmys’ In Memoriam Segment Noticeably Forgot to Include Some Big Stars, Including Chuck Norris

The 2026 Emmys’ In Memoriam segment left out several big stars, including Chuck Norris. The annual tribute aired during the 78th Emmy Awards on September 14, 2026. While it honored numerous television figures who died over the past year, several notable names were missing from the televised segment.

According to TMZ, Norris, Daveigh Chase, and Nicholas Brendon were among the notable omissions. Norris died in March at 86. He gained widespread recognition for playing Cordell Walker on Walker, Texas Ranger, which ran for eight seasons from 1993 to 2001. The role made Norris one of television’s most popular action stars.

Brendon was another prominent name missing from the montage. The actor played Xander Harris on Buffy the Vampire Slayer for all seven seasons. He starred in the series alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, and Anthony Head. Brendon died in March at 54.

Chase was also missing from the televised tribute. She became widely known for voicing Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch franchise and its television series. She also played Samantha Darko in Donnie Darko and had a recurring role on HBO’s Big Love. Chase died in June at 35.

The omissions also included voice-acting veterans Peter Cullen and Tom Kane. Cullen became best known as the voice of Optimus Prime in Transformers, while Kane had extensive animation credits, including Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Who was included in the Emmys’ In Memoriam segment?

The televised tribute remembered Hayden Panettiere, James Van Der Beek, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Anthony Head, and Sam Neill, among other television figures. Noah Kahan performed Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” during the montage.

The ceremony also featured individual tributes to Catherine O’Hara, Rob Reiner, and Dolly Parton. Macaulay Culkin, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy remembered O’Hara, while Jamie Lee Curtis paid tribute to Reiner. Reba McEntire performed “Appalachian Memories” for Parton.

The Television Academy’s online In Memoriam tribute includes additional names that did not appear during the televised segment. The broadcast has limited time; hence, it cannot include every television figure who died during the eligibility period.
