Emmerdale star confirms sad scenes amid secret twist as Gabby’s heart ‘completely drops’

Gabby Thomas’ (Rosie Bentham) wedding day to Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) finally arrives next week in Emmerdale and with both the bride and the groom carrying enormous secrets, it remains to be seen how (or if) the proceedings will, well…proceed.

Vinny has been through a huge ordeal that his wife-to-be knows nothing about, struggling with his sexuality and reaching out on an LGBTQ+ forum and connecting with Mike (Macaulay Adams), who later attacked and extorted him.

Although, Bernice Blackstock’s (Samantha Giles) arrival in the village for her daughter’s big day reveals that Vinny isn’t the only one hiding something.

Though we won’t be revealing what Gabby’s secret is, Rosie Bentham is on hand to tease what’s to come.

When asked about how Gabby feels in the run up to her big day, Rosie said: ‘I think she’s really, really excited. It’s been a long time coming. Her and Vinny’s relationship has been going at 100 miles per hour. When they first decided to give it a go it was quite different for Gabby to have someone she’s already friends with and she had a past friendship with Liv, so we didn’t really know how it was going to go.

‘But it’s been really successful so far. This is obviously her second go at being a fiancée and I think she wants the dream wedding with all of his family there and friends and stuff like that.

‘I think she’s always wanted a big, princess-style wedding but with everything that’s gone on – Gabby’s had some issues with her health recently and the car crash – she’s grounded herself about what’s actually important and she just wants to marry Vinny now and hopefully then live happily ever after.’

In a new spoiler video, Gabby looks happy as can be as Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) adds the finishing touches to her bridal look, with both women completely unaware that Vinny is freaking out over his big secret across the village.

However, he isn’t the only one hiding something…

Teasing her alter-ego’s own secret, Rosie said: ‘I think the audience might clock on to this because when I’m reading the scripts and when I’m watching it, I think it’s obvious that the two of them are on very different paths.

‘Their headspace are in different areas. Gabby’s so full speed ahead since she got back from Portugal, she’s very full-on with him, very touchy-feely, smothering him. Vinny showing quite clear signs of a man that’s struggling but Gabby’s got her little blinkers on and she’s just like ‘Wedding, wedding, wedding, me, me, me.’

When asked about how Gabby would handle what’s been happening with Vinny, Rosie mused: ‘I think she would really struggle with having had all this time and preparation for the wedding, why he didn’t feel he could speak to Gabby about it. It would obviously probably mean that the wedding doesn’t go ahead so quickly.

‘It would throw a huge spanner in the works. But I think she would really feel for Vinny and feel for the struggle he’s going through. Because they were friends before, I think she would want to support Vinny in the best way she can. Obviously having to sacrifice her wedding dream, but she’s been there before – Nicky [Milligan (Lewis Cope)] was gay. I think it would open some wounds she was trying to heal.’

Speaking on Gabby’s response when Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) informs her that Vinny is missing, Rosie said: ‘Gabby’s heart completely drops when Kammy says that Vinny is nowhere to be seen. She thinks her worst nightmare has come true – again.

She thinks if he doesn’t turn up this could be really catastrophic for their friendship, never mind their relationship, because Gabby’s feeling very, very vulnerable, that she’s trying again with someone. She’d feel really, really embarrassed and let down.’

Teasing the future for Gabby, Rosie said: ‘Whether they get married or not I think there’s a lot that needs delving into, and some secrets that need to come out and need to be talked about. Whether they try to sweep things under the carpet or address it there and then, I hope Gabby gets her happy ever after.

‘She does deserve it. I think she needs someone who is really going to make her feel safe and secure. Hopefully she concentrates on being a mum to Thomas as well, and being a good businesswoman. I think there’s a lot more to come in Gabby’s personal aspects as well.’
