Sky Sports have been branded a ‘shambles’ for their coverage of Emma Raducanu’s opening match at the Madrid Open by angry tennis fans.
The British world No.49 was in action against Dutch world No.73 Suzan Lamens on Wednesday, making her first appearance on clay this season.
During the clash in the Spanish capital, which Raducanu won 7-6 6-4, Sky Sports’ coverage suddenly switched over to a men’s singles match instead.
Fans were briefly forced to watch Nuno Borges in action against Pablo Carreno Busta and took to social media to express their frustration.
‘Why are we suddenly on a men’s match?’
‘Please sort your tennis coverage @SkySportsTennis,’ @carolinegal posted on X. ‘You are currently showing a men’s match on the Raducanu feed and it is not on any other stream.’
‘Shambles from @skysports over Raducanu coverage,’ @garside_geoff added. ‘Why are we suddenly on a men’s match?’

‘You’re currently showing Borges v Carreno Busta on the Raducanu stream,’ @Smithy_Cas said. ‘Been on for about 10 minutes now.’
The issue also impacted viewers watching Raducanu’s match against Lamens on Sky’s live streaming service NOW.
Why is @NOWTV showing Borges Vs Busta on the Emma Raducanu stream?’ @sub2pewdsONyt asked.
Sky Sports eventually resolved the problem as Raducanu booked her spot in the second round, with the British No.2 next set to face Ukrainian world No.36 Marta Kostyuk.
Raducanu’s win over Lamens marked her first match since her impressive run to the Miami Open quarter-finals last month.
The 2021 US Open champion is currently gearing up for the next major event of the year – the French Open – which gets underway on May 25.
Emma Raducanu to continue coaching partnership with Mark Petchey

Before her opening match at the Madrid Open, Raducanu revealed she intends to continue her coaching partnership with Mark Petchey.
‘We’re keeping things informal for now and it’s been working,’ the 22-year-old told the Guardian and the BBC in a joint interview.
‘He’s someone I’ve known for a long time and I do feel like I can trust him.
‘For now there is no real thing set in stone but we’re taking it week to week and he’s helping me as much as he can alongside his current commitments.’
There has been lots of interest in Raducanu’s coaching set-up ever since her remarkable Grand Slam triumph in New York four years ago.
She has chopped and changed her coaches throughout her career, with Nick Cavaday stepping down from the role after the Australian Open earlier this year due to health reasons.
