When Elvis Presley focused on being on the big screen, his music career was at a standstill. 1969, the year after he first announced his comeback to the stage, marked four years since Presley was without a top 10 hit, after 1965’s “Crying in the Chapel” was the last to make the top 10 and peaked at number three. Wanting to take the charts by storm, Presley hired a songwriter, Mac Davis, to help him land in the top ten on Billboard, which was how his iconic hit, “In The Ghetto,” came to fruition.
