Of all the dates in the 2026 cinema calendar, December 18 is sure to be the most circled. Similar to Barbenheimer and its less popular successor Glicked, December 18 plays host to not one but two high-profile theatrical debuts: Dune: Part Three andAvengers: Doomsday. The latter might be expected to outperform the former in box office total, but it's fair to say that the third installment in Denis Villeneuve's Dune trilogy will be the most critically acclaimed of the lot, and the most likely to earn Academy success at the 99th ceremony in 2027.
