Dragon Ball helped to popularize many things in the anime and manga industry, like its flashy, over-the-top hand-to-hand action, various transformations for just about all of its characters, and the tradition of shouting out attack names just before performing a signature move. The iconic series' influence cannot be understated, and the battle shōnen genre was never the same after Akira Toriyama brought Goku and company to the pages of Weekly Shōnen Jump.
