Tresor.West in Dortmund, Germany, will close its doors at the end of 2026, marking the end of an era.

The sister venue to Berlin’s legendary Tresor, Tresor.West, will close its doors at the end of 2026, after a seven-year run in Dortmund. The techno club will spend its final months hosting a series of events and closing parties throughout October, November, and December.

While the full lineup for its final months has yet to be announced, the club has promised a series of closing parties to celebrate its history and the community that has grown around the venue.

Some of the remaining acts that are scheduled to perform include Lip 71, makahuan, madea, and Parallx. The techno club will also host a special Halloween event featuring Alice in Flames, Aöcram, HTML 2020, Røstom, and Shaleen.

Founder Dimitri Hegmann attributes the decision to close to declining attendance, rising operating costs, and shifting nightlife habits. However, this isn’t the first time the venue has faced economic challenges. Since 2019, when the venue opened in Phönixplatz, it has also navigated a pandemic-era shutdown before reopening in May 2022.

The closure of Tresor.West arrives amid mounting challenges in European club culture. Established venues have closed in recent years, including Berlin’s SchwuZ, which filed for bankruptcy, and the departure of Munich techno institution Blitz Club, as well as La Cabane and RESET in Brussels.

The closure carries a particular weight for Dortmund’s nightlife scene. Since its opening, the venue has built its own identity and community by bringing established international artists together with national and local talent. In doing so, the club became known well beyond North Rhine-Westphalia and established itself as a destination for electronic music in the region and beyond.

Still, the end of Tresor.West may not mean the end of the space itself. The team is looking for an operator to take over the Phönixplatz venue and continue to use it as a cultural space. Applications are still open to event organizers, collectives, and hospitality operators.
