Donald Trump is promising to place big tariffs on movies made outside of the U.S. In a new social media post announcing the move, the president also attacked California’s Governor Gavin Newsom.
What did Donald Trump say?
In a new post on his social media platform Truth Social, the President of the United States said that he will be imposing a major tariff on “any and all movies” that are made outside of the U.S. Trump claims this effort will stop the movie-making business from being “stolen” from the United States.
“Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby.’ California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit,” Trump wrote. “Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has vowed to go after the movie business. Earlier this year, Trump said that he would get movies made in the U.S. again. At the time, he noted that actor Jon Voight, Trump’s “special ambassador” to Hollywood, was coming up with a plan to do so. No plan has surfaced yet.
