Satan’s Slaves and Satan’s Slaves: Communion are part of anunderrated Asian horror franchise that is waiting to be watched on Shudder. They were big hits in Indonesia, both directed by Joko Anwar, a new horror master who deserves the recognition that other modern filmmakers, like Jordan Peele and JuliaDucournau, have received. He can deliver intense, hellish thrills in the 2019 folk horror Impetigore or the 2024 shocking Grave Torture, but Satan’s Slaves is where he entered the horror scene for a fun and frightening remake of a classic Indonesian horror film that updates the scares for a new audience.
