Today’s criticism can quickly transform into tomorrow’s praise. And vice versa, of course. Just ask Nick Sirianni. The Philadelphia Eagles‘ head coach knows this rollercoaster all too well, having gone from being labeled as “on the hot seat” to leading his team to Super Bowl glory in just one remarkable season. This fascinating dynamic of coaching perception brings us to another intriguing story unfolding in Miami. Mike McDaniel, much like Sirianni before him, stands at a similar crossroads. But there’s something different about McDaniel’s situation.

This Monday, Yianni Kouraski posted on his X account about the whole situation. After an 8-9 season, Mike McDaniel opened up about job security in the NFL and his bond with owner Stephen Ross. “I expect him to act on what I believe my position to be.” McDaniel mentioned, “You’re not entitled to position and ultimately if it’s deemed that someone, the organization would be best served with someone else, like I’m more on board with that than people realize.” He added, “It’s why I was able to not change when the same people that are pointing out my failures were hyping me up through success.”

He noted, “This is the fastest changing world in sports. Again, Nick Sirianni was on the hottest seat.” McDaniel also said Ross hasn’t given any specific orders, like leading the Dolphins to their first playoff win this century. So far, McDaniel’s got a 28-23 record over three seasons, with two playoff losses under his belt.
