“I like Bully’s 😊that’s what Claressa Shields recently tweeted, taking a subtle but sharp jab at her doubters. Over the past few months, Claressa Shields has found herself at a crossroads more times than one. The long-running tension with Jake Paul has always lingered in the background. But things really kicked off when Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) signed Alycia Baumgardner and lined her up for a slot on the Amanda Serrano vs. Katie Taylor trilogy undercard this July. Along with it came an opportunity for Claressa Shields, but with a catch: she’d have to settle for an undercard fight. For someone who’s undisputed in three divisions and a world champion across five, that felt more like an insult than an invitation. And that’s when the noise started getting louder.

Suddenly, people were questioning her résumé. Not just fans, but even voices from within the boxing community. Her confidence was getting chipped away, piece by piece, with some criticisms even becoming borderline racist. Why? Because she’s vocal? Because she refuses to shrink herself? This isn’t just about boxing. It’s about how women in a male-dominated sport are still being pitted against each other. Instead of celebrating Shields’ legacy, it feels like people are more comfortable tearing her down. And that doesn’t sit well with many, including former WBO junior lightweight champion Jamel Herring.

Is Claressa Shields a product of boxing politics?

Earlier today, Jamel Herring took to his X and really took some time to break down everything wrong with what’s happening to Claressa Shields. He had had enough of people constantly downplaying Claressa Shields’ legacy. Resharing a post made by CPad, ‘Semper Fi’ called out the double standards and bias that creep into how people talk about her success. “Enough is enough,” he stated. “It’s okay to have favorites, but discrediting Claressa Shields’ accomplishments because of personal bias ignores the facts,” he added.

He then pointed out her resume, stating, “She won her first world title in just her 4th fight and became undisputed in two different weight classes, something no other woman in boxing history has done.” That’s not hype—that’s history.

What really got Herring going, though, is how critics tried to discredit her by saying “she’s the only one who’s fought for vacant titles.” But he made a great point—so have plenty of other respected female champions, and no one drags them for it. So why the different energy when it’s Claressa? “If you’re going to question legitimacy, keep that same energy across the board,” the 24-5 boxer asserted.

In the end, Jamel Herring believed, “Her achievements didn’t come from politics, they came from dominance.” And if people are going to question legitimacy, they better be consistent and not just aim it at her. But don’t mistake the hate for a halt. Why? Because the two-time Olympic gold-medalist is still climbing, and she’s not looking back. So what’s the update?

Claressa Shields isn’t letting the haters win

A few days ago, Brunch Boxing shared some exciting news on X. It said that, after going full 12 rounds with Danielle Perkins this February, T-Rex is gearing up for her first undisputed heavyweight title defense. The 30-year-old champion is expected to return to the ring against current IBF light heavyweight champion Lani Daniels.

In the post, they included a throwback clip of the Flint native dominating over Danielle Perkins—pinning her to the ropes and unloading with brutal combinations that left her visibly shaken. That fight was a clear reminder of why Claressa Shields calls herself the GWOAT.

The tentative date for the showdown? July 26. While the venue hasn’t been confirmed yet, an announcement is expected soon. As for her opponent, Lani Daniels has had her eye on Shields for a while now. All the way back in 2019, she mentioned fighting Shields as one of her long-term goals, right before she faced Geovana Peres. In fact, Claressa Shields recently told DAZN News US that Daniels was originally lined up to fight her last year before backing out due to injury. That’s when they pivoted to Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse.

So now, it’s a full circle—and with Claressa Shields not interested in working with Jake Paul’s MVP stable, this matchup feels personal and perfectly timed.
