Disney’s Most Haunting Villain Never Got the Live-Action Movie We Were Promised, and I'm Still Not Over It

To say that Disney’s live-action remakes and reboots have become one of film’s most saturated genres might be the cinematic understatement of the year. What started out as a magical way to revisit old classics with the gorgeous and humble Cinderella has become a never-ending trend that many moviegoers have long since tired of, with many entries being called soulless, and others obnoxious. While there have been a few gems along the way, the practice really began to be called out when The Lion King was released. While the picture was a financial success, it became obvious to many that Disney was not interested in creatively improving their classics but rather rehashing them (in some cases shot for shot) to make millions on concepts that had already proven successful. Yet, Disney has continued to greenlight these movies with a live-action remake of Moana well into production, despite the original hit being less than a decade old.
