The Wheel of Time season 3 finale offered what appeared to be a solution to Mat's memory problem - but if it's really what the show implies, this would amount to a surprising change. Although the circumstances differed from what took place in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books, Mat's experience with the Eelfinn was heavily inspired by the source material. In the fourth book, The Shadow Rising, Mat stepped through a red ter'angreal doorway and entered the realm of the Eelfinn, where he made three wishes. All three were carried over to the TV interpretation of the story, albeit with some noteworthy differences.
