Since the release of its sci-fi online first-person shooter RPG sequel, Destiny 2, in 2017, Bungie hasn't been in a great spot. While the game has long enjoyed a strong player base and a constantly evolving space-faring world through content updates, it's also sparked plenty of backlash for some controversial decisions over its years of operation. Chief among them was the move to "vault" older content, removing entire campaigns and activities from the game in an effort to reduce "bloat." Taking away hours of content that players had purchased was viewed as a wound too deep that, coupled with other poorly received updates from there, led to the announcement back in May that the live-service giant would end active development despite all indications that there was much more story left to tell.
