James Bond will return to theaters in the coming years, with production on the next installment set to begin soon, as per a new report. The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve, will introduce a fresh face as 007 in what producers describe as a new era for the iconic franchise.

James Bond is set to return in a new film, with production reportedly scheduled for 2027 and a targeted release in November 2028. According to Deadline, Denis Villeneuve will begin casting for Bond 26 after finishing Dune: Part Three. The plan is to introduce a new face in the iconic role of 007. The installment will mark a new era for the franchise under Amazon MGM Studios, with producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal leading the project.

The search is said to focus on an “unknown” British actor in his late 20s or early 30s. This aligns with Ian Fleming’s description of Bond as “a blunt instrument.” Sources confirm the role will remain male and limited to actors from the British Isles. That rules out speculated names like Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Tom Hardy.

By the time filming begins, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jack Lowden will be nearing their late 30s. This raises questions about their suitability for the role.

Steven Knight, known for Peaky Blinders and Eastern Promises, is writing the script. Insiders suggest the story may draw from Fleming’s early novels, focusing on Bond’s military background and his rise within MI6. One source said, “Whoever it is, has to look like he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice. From the moment you see him, that has to be readily apparent.”

The film will not continue from No Time to Die, which ended with Bond’s death. An insider describes it instead as “a new Bond, a new start, a fresh everything.” Casting will not begin until Villeneuve finishes his current project. Still, sources reveal “every name you’ve heard of, and many you’ve never heard of,” has already submitted their pitches.
