Is Donald Trump realizing that what Elon Musk is doing is not popular? President Donald Trump said he told his Cabinet secretaries during a meeting Thursday that staffing decisions will be left up to them, not Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency. Trump said he instructed Cabinet members to work alongside DOGE on spending and workforce reductions while clarifying that final job cuts will be at the discretion of the department leaders. “We just had a meeting with most of the Secretaries, Elon, and others, and it was a very positive one,” Trump said on Truth Social. “It’s very important that we cut levels down to where they should be, but it’s also important to keep the best and most productive people.” “As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go. We say the ‘scalpel’ rather than the ‘hatchet,'” Trump added. [NBC News]

The Trump regime really hates the TSA. The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that it is ending the collective bargaining agreement with the tens of thousands of frontline employees at the Transportation Security Administration, marking a major attack on worker rights under the Trump administration. The department, in a statement announcing the termination, criticized the union whose staffers are responsible for keeping weapons off of airplanes and protecting air travel. The department said that poor performers were being allowed to stay on the job and that the agreement was hindering the ability of the organization “to safeguard our transportation systems and keep Americans safe.” [AP]

President Donald Trump has signed an executive action that directs the U.S. Education Department to exclude certain federal student loan borrowers from the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
The action says “individuals employed by organizations whose activities have a substantial illegal purpose” will no longer be eligible for the program, known as PSLF. It comes three weeks after Education Secretary Linda McMahon said at her Senate confirmation hearing she would keep the program intact. Created by Congress, PSLF forgives the federal loan balances of borrowers who work in public sector jobs, including nonprofit organizations, after they have made 10 years of payments while working for their qualifying employer. Among the activities listed are: support for terrorism; child abuse, including “the chemical and surgical castration or mutilation of children or the trafficking of children to so-called transgender sanctuary”; “aiding and abetting illegal discrimination”; violating federal immigration laws; and state law violations such as “trespassing, disorderly conduct, public nuisance, vandalism, and obstruction of highways.” [NPR]

Free training classes for firefighters and other first responders are provided through FEMA at the Maryland site. The country’s pre-eminent federal fire training academy canceled classes, effective immediately, on Saturday amid the ongoing flurry of funding freezes and staffing cuts by Donald Trump’s regime.
