Deion Sanders is no stranger to trying his hands in different sports. One of the greatest two-sport athletes in history, Coach Prime has been grinding on and off the field his whole life. And as the spring practice for his team continues in full swing, the Colorado Buffaloes head coach will try to extend his signature flair into another year, especially with his son quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman-winning two-way star Travis Hunter heading to the NFL Draft in April. However, till then, he is out here enjoying himself, dabbing into a whole new sport.
In the latest episode of the We Got Time podcast on NFL on FOX, the legendary coach invited the most decorated female boxer Claressa Shields for a chat. During the interview, the 57-year-old shared a moment with Shields that has left the internet buzzing.
A birthday outing for Claressa Shields
The 30-year-old undisputed heavyweight champion has been dealing with a suspension mess for the past few weeks. Undoubtedly, these were some of the toughest weeks of her professional career. Fortunately, for her, she was cleared by the Michigan commission only a few days ago. Amidst the chaos, Sanders gave Claressa Shields a perfect birthday gift. As the GWOAT was celebrating her 30th birthday on March 17, Coach Prime’s magic posted a reel of their bare-fisted sparring session, prompting Shields to hype it up.

The celebration came as Shields dodged was finally exonerated from the suspension. The undisputed heavyweight champion was clearly hyped up and provided hands-on boxing lessons to the legendary coach. Both Shields and Sanders were having a great time as the Ring Magazine shared the clip on their ‘X’ page with the caption, “NFL legend Deion Sanders testing the boxing skills of Claressa Shields.”
As expected, boxing fans immediately noticed the clip and rejoiced as their champion celebrated the link-up. Furthermore, Sanders surprised everyone with his skills, and the fans made sure to rally behind him immediately.
Deion Sanders taking special lessons
A fan commented on the Ring Magazine post and wrote, “Claressa shields.. Man she the best woman boxer of all time. Unc run. ,” warning Sanders to not take the women’s champion lightly. Since she is now a heavyweight champion, that warning does hold some water.
Another fan, impressed by the Colorado Buffaloes head coach’s skills, claimed that Sanders has nothing to worry about and suggested that, “Prime has been watching Shakur.” Given how solid the two-time Super Bowl champion’s defense looked in the clip, it’s not hard to imagine him dabbling in boxing back in his younger years, even if it was just to work up a sweat.
A keen-eyed fan dissected the footage and spotted a striking resemblance between Shields’ skills and Ryan Garcia’s. He wrote, “I knew that left technique looked familiar,” while linking a week-old video of Ryan Garcia showing his left hook to one of his friends. His movement of using a jab to set up a hook starkly mirrored Claressa Shields against Sanders.
Another fan, fascinated by two legends on the same screen, commented, “,” acknowledging the greatness contained within the walls of the screen. Another fan had a similar idea and wrote, “Gwoat
,” showing his appreciation for the 30-year-old three-division undisputed champion.
Now that the legal battles are almost behind her, Claressa Shields is ready to enter the next phase of her career. With many options in front of her, it will be interesting to see what she will choose next. What do you think? Are you excited for the full podcast episode? Let us know your thoughts down below.
