Deion Sanders has a knack for transformation with perfection. Back in ’89, he strolled into the NFL Combine and famously refused to take the Giants‘ lengthy test, confident he’d be drafted before their pick. He was right—selected fifth overall by the Falcons. That same year, he debuted in Major League Baseball with the Yankees, making him the only athlete to hit a home run and score an NFL touchdown in the same week.

Fast forward to now, and Sanders, dubbed as Coach Prime, has smoothly transformed into the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. And no doubt, the NFL legend brought the same intensity as an HC as well. At Jackson State, he led the team to consecutive SWAC championships in 2021 and 2022, earning SWAC Coach of the Year honors both times.

Now at Colorado, he’s leading the team while attracting some top talent like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders, who are now entering the pros. But Deion Sanders is in no mood to rest. Not now. In fact, the 57-year-old NFL legend is out there trying his luck in yet another sport, or should we say, his new hobby?

On Sunday, Coach Prime hit up his official IG handle and shared some pictures of himself while playing tennis. And get this, Sanders is gearing up to master the sport as he wants to challenge his friend and actor, Leon Robinson. “I got a new Hobby because I’ve got to have something that I can personally compete. Give me 6 months and I’m gonna be PRIME BLACKENROE! Please understand I’m working with 8 toes and a lot of pain, but baby, I’m working,” he captioned his post.

“My goal is to be able to compete and give my dear friend and 1 of the Best Actors in the game that has played every role imaginable, Leon Preston Robinson. That …….. can PLAY PLAY! Leon, I’m Coming for you, man!” The interesting part? Well, at this point, Coach Prime is keen on mastering Tennis. The reason?

See, after all that went down, one of his fans commented on his post, suggesting that he should play pickleball. “You should play pickleball coach,” that person wrote. Sanders’ response? Well, get this, pickleball is often a team game. Sure, Tennis works the same way, but Coach Prime is currently in no mood to have teammates. Let’s just say Deion Sanders likes his own company, and he’s got this.

“At this stage in my life, I want it me and not teammates. I got this. Lolol,” he replied. So, if we round that all up, we don’t know how many years Deion Sanders will stick to his coaching gig as Colorado’s head coach. But one thing’s for sure: the NFL legend is now out here making a move on tennis. And honestly? The man’s doing it with just eight toes like it’s no big deal. Classic Deion—always switching it up, always competing, just like his kids are competing in the NFL to prove their worth.

Deion Sanders’ kids are making waves even after a tough draft week

The Sanders family had a rough draft week. Once considered one of the top 5 picks in the 2025 NFL draft, Shedeur Sanders slipped to the fifth round when the Browns finally picked him at 144th overall. On the other side, Deion Sanders’ eldest son, Shilo Sanders, didn’t even hear his name called from any of the teams before the Bucs eventually signed him as an undrafted free agent.

But things are changing for the Sanders’ household, and for all the good reasons. On one side, Shedeur is out there competing for the Browns’ QB1 role. Given the Cleveland team has Deshaun Watson, the former first-rounder, Kenny Pickett, the seasoned vet, Joe Flacco, and the rookie Dillon Gabriel, it’s still uncertain if Shedeur will get an opportunity to start in his rookie season.

But to make things more interesting, the Browns’ insider Brad Stainbrook pointed out on day 1 of the rookie mini-camp, “Yes, it’s just the first day of rookie minicamp—but Shedeur Sanders looked sharper than Dillon Gabriel.” And when asked how he embraces this competition, Sanders straight-up admitted that ” (I) Just focus on myself and what I need to do to get better, and any areas, you know, I’m lacking in.”

Speaking of his brother, Shilo Sanders—let’s just say he’s out here grinding, trying to carve out his own lane in that Bucs locker room. After remaining undrafted last month, Shilo signed as an UDFA with the Bucs. And considering the Bucs’ secondary already has a four-time Pro Bowler, Antoine Winfield Jr., free safety is the only likely available spot for Sanders on Todd Bowles’ secondary, as per the reports.

“Like the rest of the safeties, he’s very intelligent, he’s very loud,” the head coach, Bowles, said. “You can hear him, making calls and everything, so he has a good grasp of things Day 1. There was about three or four of them that did. He was one of them, but you have to make plays in pads. That’s what it comes down to — knowing what to do and then doing it consistently and constantly getting better every day.” Well, the head coach seems confident in his rookie safety ahead of his rookie season.

And to make it more interesting, Shilo finally signed his rookie deal worth $2.96 million with Tampa, after going undrafted. So, with all that being said, Deion Sanders’ kids had a rough draft week, no doubt. But both of ’em are now out there, making their way in the pros, ahead of their rookie season.
