One of the most commonly-held facts, and darkest running jokes, has been about the origins of Batman and what drove Bruce Wayne to a life of fighting crime. After the tragic murder of Bruce's parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, Bruce's identity wasn't the only thing to change, with the gradual shifting of even Park Row's identity as a district into what'd be known as Crime Alley. The horrific trauma of a child losing his parents in front of him is enough to break anyone, but in the case of Bruce Wayne and his Batman alter ego, tragedy and loss is something very much still part of his adulthood.
