Dave 'Hughesy' Hughes has made his first public appearance since being rushed to hospital with five broken ribs and a punctured lung after playing in an AFL charity match.

The Melbourne-based comedian, 54, was placed into intensive care after suffering the injuries in the AFL Legends Match for Prostate Cancer at Marvel Stadium last week.

But in a new post shared to his Instagram, the comic revealed he was back to work as he posed for a photo before a TV appearance on The Front Bar in a wheelchair.

"It's been one hell of a week for Hughesy, but he's back on deck ❤️💪," a post from Seven's The Front Bar read on Instagram.

"Tell us how you're going?" host Mick Molloy asked Hughesy on the show.

"How do you think I'm going, mate?!" Hugheshy hilariously quipped, before footage played of him falling on the field of the charity match.

It's not the only update Hughesy has given to fans in recent days.

The TV personality took to Instagram earlier this week to confirm he'd been forced to postpone some dates on his upcoming comedy tour as he's unable to fly with his injuries.

"Hey, in a suana trying to sweat out the pain of five broken ribs," he told fans in a video.

"Caloundra, I can't get there on Saturday, sorry about that, but doctors reckon you shouldn't fly with a punctured lung, so I have to postpone those shows until November."

"And Coogee, I can't get there on Thursday night either and Friday, no good in Sydney."

He said he was doing one show locally, in Torquay, southwest of Melbourne, but added: "We'll get there."

On Sunday, he left hospital and shared a picture of himself in a wheelchair and giving fans an update.

"I really did love playing the Legend's Game. Surrounded by humble superstars like Gary Ablett Jnr and Andrew McCleod. Sitting beside coach legend Tim Watson," he wrote.

"Great care at Cabrini. I'm out and about now," he added in part.

A heavily medicated Hughesy gave an update from hospital on Friday morning on Triple M's Mick in the Morning and Fifi, Fev & Nick radio shows and admitted he thought he might die from his injuries.

It was also revealed Hughesy remained at the after-party until 2am before his condition deteriorated, causing his wife Holly to rush him to hospital at 5am.

But thankfully, it looks like he's well and truly on the mend – and is even ready to make some jokes about it in classic Hughesy style.
