D23: Simpsons Movie 2 Poster Puts New Official Title in Full Display

The D23 event unveiled the title for the long-awaited Simpsons movie sequel along with a new poster. The artwork gave fans the first look at the movie’s official title ahead of its 2027 premiere.

The movie is officially named The New Simpsons Movie, according to a poster shared by PoppedNews on X. The title branding showcases Homer’s favorite food: a pink-glazed, sprinkle-topped donut. Interestingly, the movie’s promotional pavilion at D23 featured the famous Homer Bush meme setup.

Disney originally teased the project under the working title The Simpsons Movie 2. The new title gives the sequel a simple identity while keeping the long-running franchise’s title in the center. The upcoming movie comes two decades after The Simpsons Movie came out in theaters in 2007.

The original film became a global box office blockbuster, earning more than $527 million. Released under the 20th Century Fox production banner, it remains the highest-grossing film based on a television series.

What we know about The New Simpsons Movie’s development so far

Disney first announced the sequel in September 2025 with a teaser poster showing a donut with “2” sprinkles and the tagline “Homer’s coming back for seconds.” The company later set the release for July 23, 2027, before moving to the current September release.

While many details about the movie are kept under wraps, the sequel will definitely deliver an immersive big-screen experience while staying true to the franchise’s iconic humor.

As per IMDB, Kelly MacLeod, Tress MacNeille, and Maggie Roswell are the only actors confirmed so far for the upcoming movie. Matt Groening wrote the screenplay while also serving as producer alongside Al Jean, Richard Sakai, Mike Scully, and James L. Brooks.

Given that The Simpsons has already been renewed through Season 40, the movie won’t be serving as the franchise’s finale.

The New Simpsons Movie will arrive in theaters on September 3, 2027.
