Owen Caissie is back in Wrigleyville.

The Burlington, Ont., native was recalled to the major leagues on Saturday by the Chicago Cubs after a short stint with triple-A Iowa.

Caissie, who made his MLB debut earlier this season in Toronto, was sent down on Sept. 1 in favour of outfield prospect Kevin Alcantara. The 23-year-old Canadian appeared in just 11 games in August with Chicago, going 5-for-24 with one home run and nine strikeouts.

He had an impressive two-day span for the Cubs when they hosted division-rival Milwaukee in mid-August, picking up his first career hit and homer against the Brewers.

Before getting his call to the big leagues, Caissie was tearing up the minors, cementing his status as the top Canadian position player prospect. Over his first 93 games at triple-A this season, the former second-round pick hit 22 long balls and owned a .955 OPS.

In his six-game return to triple-A, Caissie went 6-for-24 with a pair of doubles and two stolen bases.

Caissie was right back in the Cubs’ lineup on Saturday, batting eighth and playing right field. Chicago entered its game against the Tampa Bay Rays with an 84-63 record and holding the top wild-card spot in the National League.
