Peacock’s Crystal Lake takes Friday the 13th fans back to the place where it all started, telling a brand-new, gory slasher prequel story that answers burning questions like how Jason grew to adult size and whether Pamela knew he was alive the whole time. Horror TV shows tied to larger franchises have occasionally gone really well. Bates Motel was a worthy reimagining of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. The Chucky slasher TV show felt like the perfect continuation of the Child’s Play franchise. Now, showrunner Brad Caleb Kane brings back the original Camp Crystal Lake killer, Pamela Voorhees, in an exceptionally gory and mostly worthy Friday the 13th prequel.
