Cristina Sanz, a star of the reality TV show Born This Way, has sadly passed away at the age of 36. Her family announced her death in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, July 8. Born This Way is a Primetime Emmy-winning series that follows the lives and aspirations of seven adults with Down syndrome.
Cristina Sanz’s family shares heartbreaking news
Cristina Sanz, best known for being one of the stars on A&E’s popular reality television show Born This Way, died on Monday, July 6. Her family has confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our daughter, Cristina, passed away Monday morning,” Sanz’s parents wrote. “She suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while at her Day Program and was rushed to the hospital.”
The statement added, “Despite the doctors’ best efforts to stabilize her heart, she did not survive. We are grateful that we were able to be by her side at the end. Her death was a total shock and unexpected. We will forever treasure the gift of her life. We will all carry in our hearts the wonderful ‘Cristina moments’ that she gave us.”
A&E has also issued a statement, addressing the tragic news. “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Cristina Sanz, who touched the hearts of many through her time on Born This Way. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her,” the network said.
Sanz appeared in all four seasons of Born This Way, which premiered in December 2015 and ran till December 2019. The A&E reality show, which centered on seven adults living with Down syndrome, had received three Primetime Emmy Awards. Furthermore, the series followed Sanz’s relationship with her husband, Angel. Unfortunately, the couple parted ways in 2021.
