Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) is a grade-A, card-carrying wrong’un, and she’s been terrorising Coronation Street since her arrival at the top of the year.
Debuting as a captive in Graham Foster’s (Andrew Scarborough) van, it was clear from the jump that there was a darkness that ran straight from Jodie’s core, and upon reuniting with her long-lost sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), she seemingly made it her sole focus to utterly destroy her.
‘It could’ve been a lovely time of reconnection, however, it turns out she’s got a few problems!’ Julia teased.
‘Just a few!’ Olivia cheekily interjected as the two spoke exclusively to Metro at the Inside Soap awards.
As the sisters reconnected earlier in the year, it became clear where Jodie’s deep resentment of her sister began: when Shona fell pregnant with her son, she fled the family home and left Jodie alone with their mentally-unwell dad and ‘enabling’ mother.
As Jodie began to settle into the Platt household, her first mission became clear: seduce Shona’s husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), with a few side quests coming as she made various Weatherfield enemies, collecting ‘trophies’ from her victims and keeping them in an utterly-creepy trinket box.
The box is creepy, but not entirely dangerous; at least, it wasn’t until Jodie stuffed a gun in there.
That gun suggests things are going to get worse for Shona and her sister, right?
‘It’s not looking good, is it? Let’s face it,’ Julia mused.
‘I don’t think it can ever be the same again,’ Olivia added. ‘I don’t know. I don’t want to speak too soon, but I’ve been watching and it’s not nice.’
‘But it’s been really cool to play, hasn’t it?’ Julia interjected.
‘[Olivia’s] been in the show a year – we kicked off with Corriedale which we started filming this time last year – and it’s just been so exciting to explore their relationship, but I think mainly Jodie’s journey and the reasons behind her vendetta.’
With David recently having been off in France, Jodie has ‘stepped up’ to help Shona with baby Harper – and by ‘stepped up’, we mean convincing Shona that she’s losing her grip on sanity with a series of vicious and cruel games.
‘I think for Shona, Jodie’s like a gift from God at the moment because obviously David’s been in France,’ Julia said of how grateful Shona’s been to her sister.
‘She’s very helpful! She’s a trained nanny – I don’t know if you’d want her in your house, though!’ Olivia said.
Of course, we had to ask if Julia or Olivia had anything they could possibly tease about what’s to come for their respective characters, and while Julia remained tight-lipped, Olivia shared a little nugget with us!
‘It’s gonna be a bleak Christmas for Jodie, that’s all I’m going to say,’ she teased.
With Christmas creeping up as it always does, now being under two months away (sorry!), does that mean that Jodie’s wicked schemes will start to unravel sooner rather than later?
Her focus this week has been on her recently-returned dad, Doug Ramsey (Steve Evets), who’d managed to get his bipolar under control with medication since the last time we – and the sisters – saw him.
With Doug well aware of how insidious Jodie truly is, she decides to silence him in, perhaps, the cruellest way possible – by sabotaging his medication, swapping the anti-psychotics with painkillers and waiting for his paranoia symptoms to return.
And what does she do when they rear their head? Encourage them, of course, by actively turning up the radio that’s become the focus of Doug’s paranoia, all while pretending she doesn’t hear a thing.
