Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) is currently mourning the death of her sister Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) on Coronation Street, while also struggling with the fact that she’s suspected of helping Julie to die.
When Julie returned to Weatherfield earlier this year she revealed that she had cancer and didn’t have long to live. Eileen struggled to accept this news, but over the weeks the two sisters became closer than ever.
Julie’s final wish was to visit a favourite spot by the lake with Eileen. She secretly planned to take her own life and recorded a video with final messages for the people she loved.
At the lakeside spot the two reminisced and shared some tender moments. Julie sent her sister off to get a cup of tea, and when Eileen returned Julie had passed away. She was pronounced dead by paramedics and a devastated Eileen headed home on her own.

When she and Todd (Gareth Pierce) watched the videos Julie had recorded, Todd realised that the recordings, and the fact that Julie had hugged him extra hard when she said goodbye as they set off for the lake, meant that Julie had known it was a final goodbye, and she intended to take her own life.
Following this, Brian (Peter Gunn) reported Eileen to the police, believing that she’d played a part in Julie’s death. This seemed to be born out by the fact that medication belonging to both Julie and Eileen had gone missing.
Eileen was questioned by the police and warned that, if she were to be found guilty of assisting Julie’s death, she could be facing prison.
Poor Eileen has been left unable to properly mourn her sister because she knows some people suspect her of killing Julie.

In upcoming episodes, after receiving the autopsy results, Eileen tells George (Tony Maudsley) and Brian that the drugs that were found in Julie’s system were the ones prescribed for Eileen, not for Julie.
Brian makes an innocuous remark, but Eileen takes it the wrong way and snaps at him, telling him he’s not welcome at Julie’s funeral.
This is obviously a devastating blow for Brian, who is mourning the loss of the woman he loved. It doesn’t help his attitude towards Eileen, either, and at the wake he confronts her over the fact that she’s the only beneficiary of Julie’s life insurance policy.
With people still suspicious, and the evidence seeming to point towards her guilt, will Eileen be able to prove she’s innocent?
We know that Sue Cleaver is leaving soon and this storyline is leading up to her exit. Could this mean Eileen is heading for prison?
