Coronation Street gives rare glimpse into ‘future episode’ – with married couple Ken Barlow and Sarah Platt at the forefront

Coronation Street has given a rare glimpse into what a future episode could look like – and it features an unlikely couple in Ken Barlow and Sarah Platt.

The episode was originally filmed to celebrate 50 years of ITV in 2005. It was also made for a private screening for the Royal family.

However, a clip was recently shown to the public. And, Coronation Street fans have been going wild about it.

Writer Daran Little shared a clip of the episode on X. He wrote: For those of you who love Corrie… sorry about the quality but I think I’ve got the only version left! Part of something special I wrote for the late Queen to watch (my first bf was her footman) with some old Coronation Street pals 20 years ago… set in 2055.”

The clip features Jack Duckworth, who is now a four-time lottery winner.

Alongside Jack is Vera Duckworth, or rather a clone of Vera. Jack shares he’s cloned his wife 12 times – ‘each programmed to answer to specific needs.’

Other versions of Vera include ‘cooking Vera’ and ‘bedtime Vera.’ ‘Bedtime Vera’ is younger, with Jack admitting he’s had that one ‘slightly modified.’

During An Audience with Coronation Street at the Lowry this week, fans were shown a longer clip, which also featured a cyborg version of Ken Barlow, who was surprisingly married to Sarah Platt.

Fans go wild for future Corrie episode

Taking to Reddit, fans couldn’t believe that this special episode of Coronation Street has stayed a secret for so long.

One fan wrote: “I went to An Audience with Coronation Street last night at The Lowry, Salford. Wasn’t expecting to learn much that I didn’t already know about the programme, but there was one bit that blew my mind and left me wanting to know more.”

They then described the clip that was shown at the event, before adding: “They’d done a good job of keeping it all a secret as I had never heard of it before last night. I expected to at least find some mention of it online but, after a fair bit of searching… nothing! Even most of the cast members being interviewed onstage had no recollection of it.”

A second fan wrote: “I was there too!!! What got me is that Jane Danson and Jack P Shepherd were also surprised as they’d never heard of it. Imagine dressing up as a cyborg and never mentioning it to your colleagues. Sarah Lou was married to Ken!”

A third fan commented: “Seriously this is fascinating. Would love if they put up the whole episode on YouTube, it would get a lot of views!” Other fans are also eager to see more as the small clip has given viewers a taster of what the cobbles could like in a few decades time.

Coronation Street usually airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV.
